My stance on AI
My number one rule about AI: be honest.
I think there needs to be nuance in conversations about AI use in creative fields. That being said, I'm not interested in reading something you didn't care enough about to write.
It's up to you if you're comfortable using AI to brainstorm story elements like worldbuilding, magic systems, characters or plot, but if we're working together I want to know if you've used it and to what extent. This is for your benefit as well because it can make it easier to see where common AI tropes are bringing your work down.
I may reject a project if I'm not comfortable with the specific use of generative AI, or the extent to which it was used.

Yes. A free sample assessment for up to 1,500 words or 10 double-spaced pages is available before starting the manuscript assessment service. For developmental editing, a sample edit may be required for projects where word count isn't a straightforward measure of the work involved.
Story Consulting is ideal if you have a specific element you want to explore — a character arc, a plot problem, worldbuilding — or if your project isn't in a traditional manuscript format. Manuscript Assessment gives you a comprehensive, high-level evaluation of a completed draft. I work with novels, novellas, short fiction, game narratives (branching dialogue, world bibles, quest design), unfiction, interactive fiction, scripts, and anything else that tells a story. If your project doesn't fit a neat category, reach out — I'm probably interested.
Yes. Payment plans are available for manuscript assessment (4 or 6 fortnightly instalments) and developmental editing (4, 6, or 8 fortnightly instalments). Story consulting is a flat fee of $330 AUD.
Absolutely. I offer a quick 15-minute video call for you to introduce your project, goals and concerns before we begin. For story consulting and manuscript assessment, this is entirely optional but recommended. It helps me understand your vision and ensures the service will provide the value you're looking for.
